Jesus Christ, the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever!

Welcome to my 2007 Easter Page.
Easter is a favorite holiday of mine;
the scriptures below will tell how "Easter" began.

PALM SUNDAY

The Sunday before Easter Sunday and 5 days before Jesus' death.

This day commemorates the spreading of palms and clothing in Jesus' path as He triumphantly entered Jerusalem  as the Messiah  prior to His crucifixion: New Testament background reading - Luke19:28-44

They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them,  and Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their  cloaks on  the road, while others cut (Palm) branches from the trees and spread them  on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"
(Matthew 21:7-9)

Jesus, who was a Jew (and the son of God), was celebrating the Passover in Jerusalem.

Jesus returns to Jerusalem , to share the Last Supper with His apostles.

John Chapter 19:  Tells of  Jesus being crucified,
of how He was scourged by Pilot, how the soldiers platted a crown of thorns and put on His head, put on Him a purple robe, and how Jesus  bore the Cross to the "the place of the skull", which is called Golgotha.  There they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side.

Jesus was nailed by His hands and feet  to the cross. He said "I thirst".
There was set a vessel full of vinegar; and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon
hyssop, and put it is His mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar,

He said, "IT IS FINISHED",  bowed His head,  and died.

The soldiers seeing that He was dead, did not break His legs as they did the other two.
Instead, they pierced His side, and out poured blood and water. Then Joseph of Arimathaea,
a  disciple of Jesus,   and Nicodemus took away the body of Jesus and  wound It in linen clothes with spices (a Jewish burying custom).
In the place where He was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new
sepulchre (tomb), where no other man yet laid. There they laid the body of Jesus.

This is the exciting part!

On the third day, HE rose from the dead!!
In remembrance of this, Christians call the resurrection of Jesus:

Easter

THE RESURRECTION of JESUS CHRIST

King James Bible, The Book of  John   Chapter 20 (scriptures v: 1-22)

The first day of the week Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, while it was yet dark,  and saw the stone already taken away from the sepulchre (tomb). She ran and came to Simon Peter, and the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him."

Peter  and the other disciple ran together to the tomb; and the other disciple outran Peter, and came upon the tomb first, but did not go in.  Stooping and looking in,  he saw the linen wrappings lying there.

 Simon Peter  went into the tomb; and seen the linen wrappings lying there, and the napkin that was about Jesus'  head was not with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself ;
The other disciple that came to the tomb first went in and he saw, and believed.  For as yet they knew not the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.

But Mary stood  outside of the tomb weeping; as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb;  and saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and the other at the feet,  where the body of Jesus had lain.

And they said unto her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them,
"
Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him."

When she had said this, she turned and saw Jesus standing there,  and knew not that it was Jesus.

Jesus said to her, "Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou?"  She supposed Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, "Sir, if you have taken Him,  tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away."
Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means, Master).  Jesus said to her, "Touch Me not; for I have not yet ascended to the Father;   but go to My brethren and say unto them,  "I ascend to My Father and your Father,  and My God  and your God."
Mary Magdalene told the disciples that she had seen the Lord,  and that He had said these things to her.

The  evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst,  and said to them, "Peace be unto you."

And when He had said this, He showed them  His hands and His side.  The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord. Then Jesus said to them again:  "Peace be unto you; as My Father hath sent Me, even so send I you". And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, "Receive ye the Holy Ghost"

"I AM HE THAT LIVETH AND WAS DEAD; AND BEHOLD, I AM ALIVE FOR EVERMORE.  AMEN.
AND HAVE THE KEYS OF HEAVEN AND OF DEATH" Rev. 1:18

"I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End" saith the Lord "which IS, and which WAS,
and which IS TO COME, the ALMIGHTY" Rev. 1:8

Jesus said unto her (Martha) "I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth in Me,
though he were dead, yet shall he live; And whosoever liveth and believeth
in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
John 11:25-26

Psalm 23

This is an eye opener; probably we never thought about this Psalm in this way,
even though we say it over and over again.

The Lord is my Shepherd  That's Relationship!

I shall not want  That's Supply!

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures  That's Rest!

For Thou art with me     That's Faithfulness!

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me     That's Discipline!

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemiesThat's Hope!

Thou annointest my head with oil    That's Consecration!

My cup runneth over    That's Abundance!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life   That's Blessing!

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord    That's Security!

       Forever    That's Eternity!
What is most valuable in our lives is not what we have, but WHO we have!

midi playing "BECAUSE HE LIVES"

CHORUS:
BECAUSE HE LIVES  I CAN FACE TOMORROW
BECAUSE HE LIVES  ALL FEAR  IS GONE
BECAUSE  I KNOW  HE HOLDS  THE FUTURE
AND LIFE  IS WORTH  THE LIVING
JUST BECAUSE  HE LIVES.

1.
THERE WAS  A MAN  HIS NAME  WAS JESUS
HE CAME  TO DIE ;  HEAL AND RESTORE
BUT  GREATER STILL  THE CALM ASSURANCE
WE CAN FACE  UNCERTAIN  DAYS BECAUSE  HE LIVES .

2. AND THEN  ONE DAY  I’LL CROSS  THAT RIVER
I’LL FIGHT LIFE'S  FINAL  WAR  WITH PAIN
AND THEN AS DEATH  GIVES WAY  TO VICTORY
I’LL SEE THE LIGHTS  OF GLORY AND I’LL KNOW  HE LIVES .

REPEAT CHORUS TWICE :
BECAUSE  I KNOW  HE HOLDS  THE FUTURE
AND LIFE  IS WORTH  THE LIVING JUST BECAUSE  HE LIVES !
